ELEVATE YOUR PLAYING
If you are seeking an experienced guitarist and passionate tutor, somebody who is current in the music industry and will help you/your child excel at their instrument and enjoy it, then look no further. I teach in-person at my Leigh-on-sea address and online, with the option to travel to students' location.
My teaching experience includes: private tuition, peripatetic tuition at schools, GCSE classroom tuition, coordinating workshops, and lecturing music business and music theory classes at dedicated music institutions.
My one-to-one tuition style focuses in-depth on the basic foundations to build greater complexity further down the line. I take great pride in my work, my lessons are meticulously planned and, most importantly, I understand the necessity of comprehending how each individual learns. Although very efficient and driven with my students, I am a very warm, welcoming and relaxed person, and my first priority is to make my students feel comfortable. I tailor all of my lessons to the individual and every student receives their own folder of learning materials (including tutorial videos, information sheets and more) that I update weekly or accordingly.

“My 11 years old son has been having lessons with George for several weeks now and I couldn't be more pleased with how things are going. George is absolutely lovely and naturally seems to know how to get the best out of my son who is extremely shy and struggles to interact with others. I have seen a great progress music-wise but also in terms of my son's overall confidence which is something that I wasn't expecting. George has a gentle but very encouraging manner and I love hearing the practice in motion. As I said, I couldn't be happier."
— Milena, Piano
“My son is very happy with George’s piano lessons and he is looking forward to each new lesson. He makes it fun and interesting!"
— Ines, Piano
“Brilliant teacher. Exceedingly happy. Will continue with the lessons."
— Sally, Guitar
“Very helpful and encouraging, got me to learn one of my favourite songs in 4 lessons. Thanks, George."
— Sheetal, Guitar
“Having returned to playing the guitar after several years, George has been a great teacher. He is engaging and insightful during our time together and tailors the lessons to focus on my personal goals. Outside of our sessions he follows up with playing material and provides structure for me to practice and progress. I couldn't have hoped for a better tutor.”
— Rob, Guitar
“George was great in my daughter’s first ukulele lesson. Put her at ease straight away and she really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next lesson!”
— Katie, Guitar
“George is a fantastic teacher. He is very calm and composed. He helps us to feel comfortable with what he is speaking and teaching. He then picks the choice from your side and then proceed ahead. He has given me a good start and I am waiting for further classes to get the experience.”
— Amit, Guitar
“Being slightly south of the 50 years old mark I did wonder if online lessons would work for me, that coupled with a bad experience of live guitar lessons left me hesitiant to start to learn the guitar again.......George has the most relaxed attitude and has put me at ease with constant encouragement and praise. His style of teaching is fantastic - always checking if I understood and 'show me again' - his absolute commitment to making sure he is teaching and I am learning is fantastic! I was nervous that an online tutor would not be interested in a complete novice and find it boring but nope...I am now a project! Looking forward to more and more lessons and shocking everyone at my 50th this summer when I join the band on stage for a few tunes :-) I can't recommend George highly enough for anyone wanting to learn to play the guitar of any age!”
— Neil, Guitar
“Highly recommended teacher, he makes the lessons fun and gives my daughter stuff to improve on and music sheets to practice on until the next lesson.”
— Darryl, Guitar
“George provides excellent tuition. Strikes the perfect balance between personable instruction, challenge and encouragement. Ideal blend of theory and practice delivered by someone who knows how to impart in-depth knowledge and experience in a way that enable consistent progress.”
— Tom, Guitar
“Great teacher, very patient and friendly.”
— Sam, Guitar
“I have been playing guitar for 10+ years and felt stuck for a long time. I began my lessons with George and now I am refreshed and taking on new playing styles that have challenged me in so many ways. I strongly recommend learning from George, if you’re a beginner or advanced player - you will be challenged and learn a lot. George’s teaching methods are very rewarding as a guitar player and I will continue to take lessons.”
— Pedro, Guitar
“I'd followed George through Bad Nerves for a long time, absolutely thrilled at how awesome they all were, and getting reasonably close with the band allowed for some more connections! Once I came to a point where I wanted to hone in my guitar skills, he truly stood out as the best option. From the start, he instantly made an impression of genuine kindness and interest in helping and teaching guitar, with extremely easy-to-follow tips and advice. But aside from teaching, George has some really amazing advice on all sorts of aspects. He's such a nice person to talk to and laugh with!”
— Finn, Guitar
“I have been playing guitar for around 3.5 years and have been taking lessons with George for just about a year and a half now, and the amount of things I’ve learned in such a short amount of time is phenomenal! George really takes pride in his students and will spend some of his free time uploading useful videos and learning material onto your very own drive, where you can access this and look back at any time. George as a person is really friendly, funny, and hardworking and will make you feel so welcome and comfortable. I really like that lessons are based around your personal interests and goals. For example, if you're wanting to branch out to learn different genres of music, George will happily help you with that as he has knowledge of quite a few different styles himself! He always makes lessons fun and enjoyable and will push you to your potential for maximum improvement! I can’t recommend having lessons with George enough; he really is an amazing teacher, mentor, and person!”
— Liv, Guitar
“I'm a big fan of Bad Nerves, so when I saw that he was now offering guitar lessons, I reached out to him immediately. Prior to our first lesson we established a study plan based on my interests and goals: in just a few months I managed to play most of my favourite songs, to improve my hand movements, to pay attention to the rhythm, to read music sheets in a more effective way, and so on. I'm more than happy with how each lesson is organised, as we've got enough time to practise and to talk about other stuff. I even practise my English with him, I teach him some words in Spanish too. I highly recommend him!”
— Cesar, Guitar
“I had been playing for around 15 years before getting lessons with George and have now been with him for 3-4years. His knowledge is second to none and ability to explain both theory and practical skills is great. He doesn’t have one approach to teaching and is able to switch up his approach if something isn’t working for you, so perfect for any level. He’s very approachable and just generally a great guy, couldn’t recommend him more.”
— Oliver, Guitar
“George tailors the lessons to suit your individual goals, aims and playing style. Always encouraging, pointing out strengths alongside areas needing practise / attention. The lessons are always fun but I am learning so much both technically and in theory whilst playing songs love. I would highly recommend!.”
— Oonagh, Guitar
“Lessons with George are brilliant. Fun, engaging, full of knowledge and always built around what you are interested in and want to learn and improve. If you want to not just learn, but genuinely improve week after week and understand what you are learning, I couldn't recommend George highly enough.”
— Mike, Guitar
“George is a fantastic teacher. Coming from a complete beginner, now having been receiving lessons from George for almost six months, my confidence and proficiency with the guitar has vastly improved. The time, patience and dedication George shows for his students is profound. Working outside of lesson, he provides in-depth notes from each lesson, videos explaining particularly difficult sections and tabs which allow me to effectively practice through the week. George is also just a brilliant person to talk to and makes me feel comfortable even when I begin to doubt my ability while making mistakes. Having been a huge fan of his former band Bad Nerves for years, I was initially intimidated at the thought of being taught by a guitarist I admired so strongly but it didn't take long for me to calm my … nerves. I could not recommend George enough and I look forward to my lessons every week.”
— Will, Guitar
